Port of Dover Cargo specialises in the handling, storage and freight forwarding of temperature controlled commodities. Dover Cargo Terminal is ideally situated for fast shipments of perishable goods by both sea and road.

Lying at the closest geographical point to the European continent and close to all of the Channel’s main shipping lanes, Dover Cargo Terminal offers minimum deviation for reefer ships and fast onward journeys to all other parts of Europe.Dover is also directly connected to the M2 and M20 motorways which inter-connect to the M25 London orbital route, giving fast and smooth access to central London as well as all other parts of the UK.

Dover Cargo Terminal offers a wide range of facilities including 24-hour access, no locks or tidal restrictions and a minimum quay water depth of 8.5 metres. As a result, vessels can berth at any time – day or night – taking as little as 40 minutes.

Dover Cargo Terminal is also ISO 9001 accredited and offers the following facilities which ensure fast, efficient and flexible turnarounds:

  • A dedicated 215m berth
  • Plus two further 200m berths
  • A minimum quay water depth of 8.5 metres
  • Two Terex Gottwald harbour mobile cranes; One 70E. 63 tonne capacity and one 90E. 30 tonne capacity
  • Two Terex Telescopic road mobile cranes
  • Bromma container lifting spreader, 40’ roll platforms, forklifts, container handlers and tugmaster units
  • 130 reefer plug-in points plus container access ramps
  • Two, four and six-pallet capacity fruit cages to ensure quicker turn-around time
  • Temperature controlled storage for 7,500 pallets
  • Bespoke car and truck lifting platform
Delivering & Collecting containers

If you are a regular visitor to the Port you may apply for a permanent pass (photo identification required). Application forms can be obtained from the Port Reception in the Passenger Terminal located at Dover Ferry Terminal (Eastern Docks).

Temporary single visit passes can be obtained from West Gate where you will need to produce a passport, European ID card or photo driving licence.
Follow the freight vehicle route into the terminal, then follow the signs to Dover Cargo Terminal. After passing through East Gate security, to enter the UTP and Container Terminal, you must use your Dock Pass.

Stevedoring Service

Stevedoring services are provided by Port of Dover Cargo Limited.

Port of Dover Cargo Limited is ideally positioned to perform a wide range of stevedoring and freight forwarding tasks on behalf of its clients. 

A key to the success of the port services division is a vastly experienced team.  Port of Dover Cargo Limited offer a comprehensive range of services, from customs entry and clearance, liaison with ships’ agency and stevedores, cargo sorting and handling, ambient and temperature controlled storage, box end labelling, as well as full and part load transport and freight forwarding to UK and other European destinations.

A dedicated handling team achieve an average discharge rate of 120 pallets per hour with peak discharge rates far in excess of this. With the majority of vessels discharging part cargoes at Dover, a quick dispatch and the port’s unique position adjacent to the shipping lanes in the Dover Strait allow vessels to discharge and sail to ports such as Antwerp (12 hours), Zeebrugge (6 hours), Rotterdam (10 hours) or Hamburg (24 hours), often in time for a next morning commencement.
