Port of Dover Community Fund – thrilled to support music related activities in community 0 comments / Category : Press Release The Deal Festival of Music and the Arts is one of the landmarks of the English music festival scene bringing art lovers from far and wide to enjoy concerts and other events from world-class artists. The Port of Dover Community Fund, which has recently awarded 10 local projects with a combined contribution of over £71,000, will support the Festival’s community outreach programme in Dover District; aiming to work with 500 local participants, particularly those faced with challenging circumstances, who have little or no access to the arts. Dr. Paul Edlin, Artistic Director of Deal Festival of Music and the Arts, says: “We are thrilled with the generous support from the Port of Dover Community Fund which will assist greatly in our educational work in Dover. Whilst the Deal Festival itself lasts for two weeks we work with schools and local communities throughout the year to support music related activities which can have such a positive effect on people’s education, self-esteem and social skills.” Recently Roger Knight, Community Fund panel member, and Andy Garrett, Kent Community Foundation, visited Deal Festival of Music and the Arts to present them their cheque and attend a concert which was the culmination of a week long Summer School for local residents. It included musicians from the age of 7 to 82, some with a wealth of experience and others who were just starting out. Roger Knight, panel member and local businessman says: “The panel of the Port of Dover Community Fund was delighted to support Deal Festival of Music and the Arts in its Dover outreach education programme. The concert was a fantastic showcase of the type of work that they do and to see local musicians, young and old, experienced and novice coming together to demonstrate their talents was an evening to remember.” Tim Waggott, Chief Executive, Port of Dover, says: “I am thrilled that Deal Festival of Music and the Arts will benefit from the Community Fund. Their educational activities in the community will truly bring the arts to those who would not normally have the opportunity to engage with this unique experience.” Notes to Editors In the spirit of independence and community, the Port of Dover has entrusted the management of the Community Fund to the Kent Community Foundation (KCF). With more than a decade of experience of managing similar schemes, KCF will oversee the promotion, evaluation and administration of grant applications for projects that foster skills, jobs and the community in the months and years ahead. Port of Dover Community Fund – another community group benefits from the Port’s commitment to Dover 0 comments / Category : Press Release Chosen by an independent panel, the Community Fund has recently awarded 10 projects locally with a combined contribution of over £71,000. Last week the Kent Community Fund (KCF) manager, Bruce Topham, and Community Fund panel member, Ronnie Philpott, were on hand to deliver a cheque to the latest group to benefit from the Port’s commitment to Dover. Dover Partnership Against Crime (DPAC), established in 1995, involves traders, business people, police and the local authority in tackling crime in Dover, Deal and Sandwich through a dedicated radio system that links them all. The Port of Dover Community Fund grant will enable the partnership to purchase digital radios in order to continue its work as the current analogue system is fast becoming obsolete. Karen Griffiths, Dover Partnership Against Crime (DPAC), Coordinator says: “This will be another step closer to going digital thanks to this grant. Something we didn’t think we could even consider before. By having a digital radio system instead of analogue, the whole radio security will be much tighter. Only those who are part of the DPAC system will be able to listen in to the channel. The radio transmissions will be much clearer so members will not have to repeat themselves because of a crackly radio. By going digital DPAC will be able to extend into Whitfield allowing them to share information too. It goes without saying that be allowing us to prevent and deter using a good radio system, enables the community in general to benefit. We at DPAC would like to say a huge thank you to the Port of Dover Community Fund.” Tim Waggott, Chief Executive, Port of Dover, says: “I am delighted that the Community Fund will be able help DAPC and support them in the important work they are doing in their communities. The Fund has been established to support projects and activities in Dover and I look forward to seeing the charity develop further in the future.” The 10 projects chosen as part of this year’s Community Fund cover a wide range of important community themes, including youth support, crime prevention, health, maritime skills, the arts and sport. Carol Lynch, Chief Executive of Kent Community Foundation, says: “DPAC continues to enhance Dover as a great place to live, work and visit. The panel members were delighted to make this award, which will support DPAC in the important role it plays in the town.” ENDS Notes to Editors In the spirit of independence and community, the Port of Dover has entrusted the management of the Community Fund to the Kent Community Foundation (KCF). Port of Dover and its ferry partners deliver one million passengers in five weeks 0 comments / Category : Press Release Tim Godden, General Manager of Strategy and Risk Management, Port of Dover, said: “The team at the Port of Dover has been working incredibly hard to deliver our customers to mainland Europe by making sure families make that all important summer break. Amidst an extremely challenging backdrop, the Port has stayed open for business throughout and played its part to keep the traffic, Dover and the UK economy moving.” The Port and its ferry customers have been delivering the most reliable shortest-sea crossing as Eurotunnel suffered frequent disruption to its services during the period. As a result, the Port was able to maximise available capacity for the additional traffic, whilst maintaining a first class service. The Port of Dover, together with sister ports in France, handles £100 billion of UK/European trade each year and represents a principal trade route between the UK and mainland Europe. ENDS Notes to Editor The Port handles 13 million passengers, 2.5 million freight vehicles and £100 billion of UK/European trade. Port of Dover comments on Government action to alleviate effects of traffic congestion caused by ongoing issues in Calais and at Eurotunnel 0 comments / Category : Press Release Tim Waggott, Chief Executive of the Port of Dover, said: “While it is welcome news that the Government is taking further action to alleviate the significant knock on effects in south east Kent caused by the ongoing problems in Calais and at Eurotunnel, attention should not slip away from finding a solution that provides lasting resilience at this nationally important strategic freight corridor. We have some concerns over the practicalities of the solution proposed but remain committed to working with all our partners to maintain traffic fluidity.” The Port of Dover, together with sister ports in France, handles £100 billion of UK/European trade each year and represents a principal trade route between the UK and mainland Europe. The recent disruption to this vital international trade corridor cost the national economy up to £250 million per day in lost trade. The Port of Dover remains open for business with our ferry partners operating full services to Calais and Dunkirk. The Port continues to work closely with all of its multi-agency partners in responding to the ongoing situation so we can deliver the biggest, best and most efficient service on the shortest sea crossing between UK mainland Europe.
