Notes on the completion of an application for consent

  1. Applications in respect of all ro-ro consignments and general cargo should be submitted preferably 4 days in advance to the General Manager Operations & Harbour Master.
  2. Insert the full particulars of the Shipping Operators on whose behalf the application is made.
    Application to the Dover Harbour Board will as a general rule only be accepted from companies operating cross-Channel services from Dover. In the case of general cargo, applications will normally be accepted only from recognised shipping agents.
  3. Signatories must be authorised representatives of the Shipping Operators / Agents previously notified to the Port of Dover.
  4. It is vital that the signatory or agent can readily be contacted 24 hours a day in respect of the proposed consignment.
    The details of that person or agent and their 24 hour contact arrangements must be included in the application.
  5. The term “export and import” means from and to Dover.
Conditions of Consent

(A) The applicant indemnifies Dover Harbour Board against all actions, claims, costs and demands in respect of any accident, loss of life, personal injury to, or loss of goods or property of any kind and all and any consequential loss that may arise directly or indirectly from any such goods being in Dover Harbour or on Harbour lands, whatsoever shall be the nature of such accident loss or damage and howsoever the same shall be caused, except in so far as any loss of life or injury is due to proven negligence on the part of the Dover Harbour Board.

(B) On approval the Harbour Board reserves the right to restrict entry of Export consignments onto the Board’s Property no earlier than a specific number of hours earlier than the shipment.

(C) Special conditions may be applicable to this particular consent and will be explained on approval.

We, (as Company Name below), hereby apply for consent to ship the following consignment of Dangerous Goods via Dover Harbour Eastern Docks and in respect thereof agree to indemnify Dover Harbour Board in the terms set out in condition ‘A’ above, and further to observe any other conditions which may be attached to such consent. (See Note 2 above)
